To me, artistic expression falls into two categories. It is either good art or bad art. It either contributes to mankind in a positive manner or detracts from mankind in a negative manner. I prefer to be part of the artistic expression that is a positive influence upon this world. I see the world of nature in all its subtleties and nuances and I then express that experience in my drawings.
In many of my drawings I deliberately eliminate any evidence of mankind. I have since backed off from this tendency. I tend to stay in the graphics area because I lack the patience to take several days to finish a work. I love to draw directly from nature while fighting off the bugs. This limits the amount of time I can spend on any one drawing. Because of this my drawings tend to capture the moment rather than every detail and color. There are times when I will take photos of a scene and go back to my desk at home and spend more time on a subject. It is my prayer that you enjoy my work and that it has encouraged you in some way and made your day a little better.
My love for artistic expression has now been given full vent. I’ve completed many series of drawings from Florida to New York to California. Each new area presents a whole new way of drawing and expressing myself. I started with pencil and black ink pens, then moved on to ink drawings with colored pencils, and now I’m working on ink drawings with colored pencils and three dimensional matt board cut outs. In-between all the drawings are hundreds of water color paintings.
I was born in 1943 in Brooklyn, New York, from Italian immigrant family of eleven. We left Brooklyn in 1950 and moved to Hicksville, Long Island. Baseball, basketball and soccer occupied my time throughout my school years, including my college years. My love affair with art started in second grade where I sat next to a young girl who drew beautiful flowers in a window box. My favorite subjects were gym class and art class. I took all the art courses my high school offered. Upon graduation I accepted an invitation to play sports at Oswego College up on Lake Ontario. After one year of study I transferred to SUNY at New Paltz, New York, as a double major in fine arts and education. Athletics was still a major part of my life as I played on the soccer, basketball, and baseball teams while trying to get my work done. I studied painting from George Wexler (an accomplished Hudson River Landscape artist and Igor Bolotofski, an internationally known Russian Painter). After finishing graduate work in the Fine Arts program I taught for eight years in the public school system.
